At any given time Norton Colorado has a group of people who've committed to doing a little more than the average member to plan events, manage finances, produce the newsletter, etc. We call these people "officers" but that's really a much too formal and ominous kind of title. Norton Colorado has always been run on the basis of consensus rather than the authoritarian model that the term "officer" implies.
The current cast of characters involved in running Norton Colorado is:
As a sign of appreciation for the extra work that the officers do, a motion was passed at the 2010 Winter Banquet that officers are relieved of the requirement to pay annual dues for as long as they serve.
All club positions are up for election every year at the Winter Banquet in February. We sometimes need a replacement for one of the jobs during the year and we go through a casual, consensual process to do that, and then bring it to the club to ratify at the next Winter Banquet. The spur-of-the-moment nomination and election process at the Winter Banquet has sometimes led to some confusion and even embarrassment, so we are trying to make it a little more formal and give the members a chance to think about the subject before they've ingested three or four beers at the Winter Banquet and are suddenly asked to vote. Here is a synopsis (by Eric Bergman) of the status of each office, as of February 8, 2010:
If you have an interest in serving the club in any of the roles listed above, even if there are already other candidates or contented incumbents listed for that job, we urge you to communicate that fact to one of the club's officers so we can get your name on this list and also into the newsletter before the next Winter Banquet. We also encourage you to include a short statement about your interest, any relevant experience, and ideas for improving the club.
